We were joined on the Popternative show by Malcolm McDowell and Mark Critch to discuss the second season of Son of a Critch which premieres on January 3. Based on Mark Critch’s (This Hour Has 22 Minutes) award-winning, best-selling memoir, and created by Critch and Tim McAuliffe (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, The Office (U.S)), Son of a Critch tells the hilarious and true story of a young Mark Critch coming of age in St. John’s, Newfoundland in the 1980s. The comedy series follows 11 year-old Mark as he navigates through life using comedy to connect with others.
Mark portrays his own father, Mike Sr., and narrates the series, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Disney’s Pinocchio) plays young Mark. Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Entourage) plays his grandfather, Pop, Claire Rankin (Stargate Atlantis) plays his mother, Mary, and Colton Gobbo (Ginny & Georgia) plays his older brother, Mike Jr.
In our interview, Mark talks about what we can expect from season 2, and the mindset coming back after a succesful first season. Malcom tells us what it’s like working with Mark on a projet that is based on his life and how he prepared to portray his grandfather.

Season 2 of Son of A Critch premieres on January 3, 2023, with new episodes airing Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. (9 p.m. NT) on CBC and CBC Gem. Season 1 is available to stream now on CBC Gem.
