When did you decide that storytelling and acting was something you wanted to do?
LG: I can remember always doing plays in the backyard with my brother and sister and friends. I first got the taste of performing for a live audience when I was in a grade five stage production and I started improvising some unscripted things and it got laughs from the audience and I could see out of the corner of my eye the teacher cracking up while playing piano. Also, my friends’ dad worked as a teacher and for the summer he would bring home the school’s large video camera – which was a big deal in the 90’s, haha. We would make short videos and movies for our family and friends.
What advice would you give to people pursuing acting?
LG: Make stuff of your own, take classes, read plays, take improv classes, always keep learning.
What was your first acting role?
LG: I played Maria in our high-school musical production of WESTSIDE STORY. That was maybe my first leading role. My first paid role … I think I was hired to play the part of a bear. I wore a bear costume and handed out hors d’oeuvres — which is hard to do with big furry paws.
What can you tell us about Hypnotic? What we can expect from your character?
LG: Hypnotic is a suspenseful female-led, dark, psychological thriller. It’s about a woman named Jenn, played by Kate Siegel, who is going through a rough period of her life, both professionally and personally – she reluctantly agrees to see a hypnotherapist, after much convincing from her best friend Gina, played by me. Things take a turn into a deadly and terrifying nightmare. Gina is Jenn’s best friend and she really wants to see Jenn out of her depressed funk, she wants her old friend back. Gina has been doing well, especially after she started seeing Dr. Meade, and wants the same for her friend.
Outside of acting, do you have any other interests or passions?
LG: I love making food for friends and when it’s grey and cold and rainy outside, I love a good hot yoga class, and rainy hikes and hanging out with friends.
What has been the best advice someone has given you about acting?
LG: To listen and be present for your scene partner. When you’re in the flow or in the moment with your scene partner, it’s such a great high — this doesn’t always happen, sometimes your scene partner is the corner of the matte box… but when you get those rare moments, it is so amazing.
