Check out our conversation below where Kathryn discusses the new film and some of her acting experiences.

When did you decide that storytelling and acting was something you wanted to do?

Kathryn Kohut (KK): I think I have probably always wanted to be a storyteller, but I didn’t think that it was possible to have a career as one, until later in my life. I loved playing make-believe when I was young and I grew up without a TV in my house, so I first fell in love with stories through books. When I got older and started watching more films, I knew I wanted to be a part of them in one way or another, and decided to try. I haven’t looked back.

What can you tell us about Feeling Butterflies?

KK: Feeling Butterflies is a cute, feel good romantic comedy. We follow Emily, who is a lepidopterist – the scientific name for butterfly expert – who runs Butterflies, Inc., a booming business that releases butterflies at weddings and special events. Her business – and love life – starts to take flight thanks to a handsome single father and his younger daughter.

What advice would you give to people pursuing acting?

KK: I would say it’s so important to take initiative and stay disciplined! This is your business and no one is going to care about it as much as you. So work hard, but also be kind to yourself in the process of it all.

What was your first acting role?

KK: My first acting role was a sci fi/horror/action film called Spare Parts. I played Lea, a girl who was kidnapped and forced to fight gladiator style in a ring for her life. When she could no longer fight she was kept prisoner to the leaders of the town. It was an intense first role to get! I learned a lot and it was really fun.

What do you enjoy the most about acting?

KK: There’s a lot I love about acting. I love the challenge of it and the excitement that comes with exploring a new character and a new story. I love deep diving into the research that comes with needing to understand a new person, profession, place and situation etc. I also love that everyday is new and exciting, and that I get to travel and work with new people all the time!
