We were joined on the Popternative show by Katherine McNamara who stars as Abby Walker in The CW‘s new series Walker: Independence. The series, which premiered on October 6th, is a prequel to The CW’s Walker set in the 1800s.

The official synopsis is: “Set in the late 1800s, this origin story follows Abby Walker, an affluent Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West, as she crosses paths with Hoyt Rawlins, a lovable rogue in search of purpose. Abby and Hoyt’s journey takes them to Independence, Texas, a small town with a big future.” Matt Barr, Justin Johnson Cortez, Katie Findlay, Greg Hovanessian, Lawrence Kao, Philemon Chambers, Gabriela Quezada and Mark Sheppard also star in Walker: Independence.

In our interview, Katherine McNamara discusses being part of a project in the Western genre and how this series is different from others: “We are taking the opportunity to reinvent the wagon wheel as it were, and hopefully bring a new perspective and a new lens to the Western and to hopefully what is a more historically accurate version of what the West actually was.”

Walker: Independence airs on Thursdays at 9 p.m ET on The CW and can also be streamed on the CW App.
