We were joined on the Popternative show by Kahyun Kim who stars as Serena in the new mockumentary medical sitcom, St. Denis Medical. From the team behind the workplace comedy Superstore, St. Denis Medical centers on an understaffed Oregon hospital where the dedicated doctors and nurses try their best to treat patients while maintaining their own sanity.

The series premiered with back-to-back episodes on November 12th on NBC. It also stars Wendi McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs) David Alan Grier (Joe Pickett), Allison Tolman (Why Women Kill), Josh Lawson (Mortal Kombat), Mekki Leeper (Jury Duty), and Kaliko Kauahi (Superstore).

The hospital setting was not completely new for Kahyun, she tells us, “My mom works at a hospital in Korea so I grew up around hospitals, I did a lot of volunteering growing up. One of my first volunteering jobs I had was at a nurse station, so I was used to the environment.”

Kahyun also talks about her audition process for the role of Serena, working with the ensemble cast, and some of her learning experiences from on set. Watch the full conversation below.

St. Denis Medical airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC and can be streamed the next day on Peacock.
