The highly anticipated international drama series Pachinko will premiere this Friday, March 25, 2022 exclusively on Apple TV+. Based on The New York Times bestselling acclaimed novel, Pachinko presents the hopes and dreams of four generations of a Korean immigrant family. The story begins with a forbidden love and dives into a sweeping saga that journeys between Korea, Japan and America to tell an unforgettable story of war and peace, love and loss, triumph and reckoning. Told in three languages – Korean, Japanese and English – the cast includes Yuh-Jung Youn, Lee Minho, Jin Ha, Minha Kim, Anna Sawai, Eunchae Jung and Steve Sanghyun Noh. With 8 episodes, the series contained a team of 2 directors: Kogonada (Columbus, After Yang) directed episodes 1, 2, 3 and 7, and Justin Chon (Blue Bayou, Ms. Purple) directed episodes 4, 5, 6 and 8.

We had the pleasure of speaking with Justin Chon on the Popternative show about Pachinko and what went into the production of it. Justin highlights the importance of taking on this project for him on a personal level: “I’m Korean, so there’s an ethnic obligation and responsibility that I thought I wanted to honor and bring to light.” We also discussed the opening credits to the series and what the thought process was behind it.

You can watch the full interview with Justin Chon below.

Pachinko contains 8 episodes with the first three episodes available to stream on March 25, 2022, followed by new weekly installments each Friday, on Apple TV+
