We were joined on the Popternative show by actor and singer Jovan Armand who returns to his role as shy foster kid Pedro Peña in the DC film Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The film premiered on March 17 and is a sequel to 2019’s Shazam! Based on the DC Comics, the film continues the story we were introduced to in 2019 where teenage Billy Batson (Asher Angel) can transform into the adult superhero Shazam (Zachary Levi) by simply shouting “Shazam!” Billy’s foster brothers and sisters also possess this power creating a team of superhero adults.
Jack Dylan Grazer and Adam Brody play Freddy Freeman, Faithe Herman and Meagan Good as Darla Dudley, Grace Caroline Currey as Mary Bromfield, Ian Chen and Ross Butler play Eugene Choi, and Jovan Armand and D.J. Cotrona as Pedro Peña. Djimon Hounsou returns as Wizard Shazam along with Marta Milans and Cooper Andrews as foster parents Rosa and Victor Vasquez. New to the Shazam! franchise are Helen Mirren as Hespera, Lucy Liu as Kalypso, and Rachel Zegler as Anthea.
In addition to acting, Jovan also has a passion for music and just released his new single “Heavy” featuring The Game. In our interview, Jovan talks about returning for the Shazam! sequel, the special effects in the film, his love for music and rap in particular, and much more.
