We were joined on the Popternative show by Josh Segarra where we discuss his roles in the latest Scream film, Scream VI, and in the new Apple TV+ comedy series The Big Door Prize. The month of March proved to be a successful one for Josh as Scream VI saw the biggest opening for the franchise bringing in a total of $44.5 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend in March. The Big Door Prize premiered with its first season on March 29 and was very quickly renewed by Apple TV+ for season 2 following rave reviews. We will also be able to catch Josh in the HBO Max comedy series, The Other Two, returning for season 3 on May 4.
Based on M.O. Walsh’s novel of the same name, The Big Door Prize follows a small town that becomes forever changed when a mysterious machine appears out of nowhere in the general store, promising to reveal the resident’s true life potential. Josh stars alongside an ensemble cast including Chris O’Dowd, Gabrielle Dennis, Ally Maki, Damon Gupton, Crystal Fox, Sammy Fourlas, and Djouliet Amara.
Josh plays Giorgio, local restaurant owner, and when asked about portraying him, Josh explains how he is able to relate to him:
“You meet this character who’s the youngest Italian American goalie in New York Rangers history, he goes back to his home town and opens an Italian restaurant/sports center. My favorite restaurant is the Olive Garden, okay. I am a product of Orlando, Florida, I frequent a place called The Fun Spot down there which is an arcade, a go kart center, and now I live in New York City and there’s those super fast go karts, you’ll catch me there once every couple of months with some friends, so I’m a kid at heart, so to play Giorgio who I think is a kid at heart as well, is a dream.”

*Spoilers ahead for Scream VI*
When discussing Scream VI, Josh explains how he was wrong in predicting who the Ghostface killer was this time around:
“At first I was dead wrong because I thought it was me. When I did my call back, my call back audition was a 2 page monologue that was the killer monologue from [Scream] five. So I’m sitting here doing this monologue going like ‘holy sh*t, I’m the killer.’ I find out that I’m not the killer, everyone delivers that monologue, that’s their standing tradition. I didn’t guess it right because I kind of felt the same way where as I was reading it you’re just the whole time wondering.”
