We were joined on the Popternative show by Chicago Med star Jessy Schram who stars in the new Hallmark holiday romance, A Suite Holiday Romance, which premiered on December 13. Schram plays Sabrina, a struggling writer who checks in at the iconic Grand Fairbanks Hotel in New York City during Christmas week for a new ghostwriting position.
What begins as an ideal holiday and work getaway takes an unexpected turn when Sabrina meets Ian, played by Dominic Sherwood (Shadowhunters), a charming British traveler, at the hotel bar. Mistaken for a wealthy guest, Sabrina lets the misunderstanding slide, especially after Ian hints at being part of British high society. However, Ian is not who he appears to be; he is actually the personal assistant to Lord Spencer Braxton and is in New York to manage the holiday installation of the Braxton Royal Jewels exhibit. As Sabrina introduces Ian to Christmastime in New York City, their connection deepens and a romance begins to grow.
On capturing the magic of Christmas on screen, Jessy says “In these movies, Christmas is a main character. We’ve got Sabrina, Ian, and Christmas, and everything else falls in line. So, it’s not just the backdrop. I feel like what’s so fun, especially in this movie, is there’s a magic and a whimsy to it. And I feel like if it wasn’t during Christmas, it wouldn’t be the same ‘wow’ kind of feeling and moment. The holidays come into play because everybody feels a sort of way when the holidays come around. That’s maybe when you miss your loved ones the most or your nostalgia comes back to just blow up your world.”
Jessy stars as Dr. Hannah Asher on NBC’s hit series Chicago Med, where she is a fan-favorite regular through storylines that explore both romance and major personal growth, and she also spoke with us about her experience on the show, the dedication of its fan base, and how that support extends to her Hallmark work as well. “Both of the followings from these projects that I get to do are very loyal fans, they’re very vocal fans, and they’re very loving fans. These audience really do mix, so you have a lot of the fans already watching both of these projects.”
