We were joined on the Popternative show by singer-songwriter and actress Jenna Davis whose voice may sound familiar if you’ve seen the latest horror film M3GAN. Produced by horror icons Jason Blum and James Wan, M3GAN follows 8-year-old Cady (Violet McGraw from The Haunting of Hill House) who goes to live with her aunt Gemma (Allison Williams from Get Out) after the death of her parents. As an engineer at a robotics toy company, Gemma creates a prototype doll named M3GAN (Model 3 Generative Android) who befriends Cady. However, as M3GAN learns more about society and the world around her, she begins to develop new and deadly methods to protect Cady.

In our interview, Jenna tells us about not only voicing M3GAN, but also providing her singing voice for the role as there are a few scenes throughout where M3GAN belts out:

Being able to combine two of my biggest passions is a dream come true. I recall when I auditioned for the project they asked me to sing and I was very confused, because it’s a robot who sings, and it’s fun and unexpected. I think that’ what makes it fun for audiences but it was also fun for me and myself to portray that. Interestingly enough, for the role I was told to sing worse than I usually do sing, and I have never been told to sing worse in my entire life so that alone was pretty comical.
