We were joined back on the Popternative show by Jane Widdop (Yellowjackets) who stars as Winnie Carruthers in the new holiday horror comedy, It’s A Wonderful Knife, now streaming on AMC+ and Shudder. Written by Michael Kennedy (Freaky) and directed by Tyler MacIntyre (V/H/S/99), the film is a horror take on the holiday classic It’s A Wonderful Life.
It follows Winnie a year after saving her town from a psychotic killer on Christmas Eve who is now wishing life were different and that she was never born. She then finds herself in a parallel universe where she never existed and where the killer is still on the loose tormenting the town. It’s A Wonderful Knife‘s cast also includes Jess McLeod (One Of Us Is Lying), Justin Long (Barbarian), Joel McHale (Community), Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps), William B. Davis (The X-Files), Cassandra Naud (Influencer), Aiden Howard (Firefly Lane), Erin Boyes (I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House), and Sydney Scotia (Pillow Talk).
In our interview, Jane discusses portraying Winnie and what went into preparing to play someone who is a stranger to everyone:
“I’m really grateful because I do relate to Winnie a lot and I see a lot of myself in Winnie, but nobody knows what they would do if they went into an alternate reality and they didn’t exist. It’s funny, I went to a restaurant and the waitress came up to me and is taking my order, and I pretended like I knew her and she didn’t know who I was. And that’s how I prepped. Because how do you make that feeling come naturally? It’s hard.”
Jane also shares more behind-the-scenes stories from filming and working with the ensemble cast. Watch the full conversation below.
