We were joined on the Popternative show by Jaeden Martell (IT, Knives Out) and Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space, Reacher) who play brothers Joseph and Thomas in the new post-apocalyptic thriller, Arcadian.

Releasing in theaters April 12th, Arcadian also stars Nicolas Cage (Dream Scenario, Renfield) and Sadie Soverall (Saltburn, The Winx Saga), and is directed by Benjamin Brewer (Reptile, The Trust).

Taking place in in a near future, normal life on Earth has been decimated and Paul (Cage) and his two sons, Thomas and Joseph, have been living tranquility by day and torment by evening. Every night, after the sun sets, they face the attacks of a mysterious and violent evil. When Thomas doesn’t return home before sundown one day, Paul must leave the safety of their farm to find him leading to a nightmarish battle that forces the family to come up with a plan to survive.

While Arcadian has horror and sci-fi elements throughout, Jaeden says, “It’s about a family. It’s about brotherly love, a father looking out for them, and also letting them go, it’s a coming-of-age.”

Maxwell discusses the relationship between his character and Jaeden’s: “Love for my brother is a constant throughout the whole [film], from when I was approaching it. I never wanted it to seem like I hated my brother [or] didn’t care what happened to him in this scary world. I think our key differences were where we wanted to exist in this world, and Thomas is this really impulsive, deeply emotional person.”
