We were joined on the Popternative show by Efren Ramirez (Mad Families, Napoleon Dynamite) who stars in the new Western thriller action film Seven Cemeteries which was released in theaters and on Digital and on Demand October 11.

Written by Joel Soisson (Piranha 3DD) and John Gulager (Feast), and directed by Gulager, the film also stars Danny Trejo (Machete), Sal Lopez (Full Metal Jacket), Samantha Ashley (The Curse), Vincent M. Ward (The Walking Dead), Lew Temple (You Gotta Believe), Richard Esteras (The Bear), Emma Ramos (New Amsterdam), and Maria Canals-Barrera (Wizards of Waverly Place).

Seven Cemeteries plays with different genres and follows a recent parolee (Danny Trejo) who gets a Mexican witch to resurrect his old posse so that they can help him save a woman’s ranch from a ruthless drug lord.

“What a great way to release this film during the horror season, and I was pushing for it,” Efren says about the horror and thriller components the film also has.

In terms of his character, Miguel, Efren says, “With this kind of character, I had to not only look at the present moment of how he deals with the situation, but the character’s history, his historical facts, what was he like when he was alive. Is he the same now that he’s dead? What are the new challenges that he’s facing?” We also discuss the legacy behind the cult classic comedy film Napoleon Dynamite (2004) where Efren played the iconic Pedro.
