Waack Girls tells the story of a group of young women who found empowerment and unity through the art of waacking, a form of dance that originated in the LGBTQ+ clubs of Los Angeles in the 70s. In the heart of Kolkata, India, six young women form a dance group in a city and country unfamiliar with their style—waacking. Led by Ishani, an expert waacker, and Lopa, their scrappy manager, they face challenges on and off the dance floor, battling personal, familial, and societal pressures. Each of the six women is unique and unapologetic, with her own issues. United by a fearless defiance, they live life on their own terms, claiming their hard- won space.
Created and directed by Sooni Taraporevala (Yeh Ballet), the series also stars Mekhola Bose (Yeh Ballet), Rytasha Rathore (Badho Bahu), Chrisann Pereira (Murder in Agonda), Anasua Chowdhury (Laal Singh Chaddha), Priyam Saha (Babli Bouncer), Ruby Sah, and Achintya Bose (Yeh Ballet).
