We were joined on the Popternative show by director Sara Zandieh to discuss her new rom-com, The Other Zoey, which was released in theaters on October 20th. The film stars Josephine Langford (After franchise, Moxie), Drew Starkey (Outer Banks, Hellraiser), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone, Voyagers), Mallori Johnson (WeCrashed, Kindred), Patrick Fabian (Better Call Saul, The Last Exorcism), with Heather Graham (Suitable Flesh, On a Wing and a Prayer), and Andie MacDowell (The Way Home, Maid).

It follows computer major Zoey Miller (Langford) who thinks she has love all figured out. She then has her life turned upside down when popular soccer player Zach (Starkey) gets amnesia and mistakes Zoey as his girlfriend who is also named Zoey. Before she can tell him the truth, she meets Zach’s cousin, Miles (Renaux), who she has a lot in common with. Pretending to be Zach’s girlfriend, she realizes she has feelings for both of them and is forced to confront her fears to make an impossible decision.

In our interview, Sara tells us about when she first read the script and how it reminded her of 90s rom-coms she grew up with: “It had a kind of nostalgic feeling but it was also a really fun character that I hadn’t seen before and I was really excited that Josephine was going to play her, and I was really excited to see her in a comedic role, so there was a lot of elements that drew me to the project.” Sara also discusses working with Josephine Langford and Drew Starkey on set.

The Other Zoey will be available On Demand November 10th.
