We were joined on the Popternative show by director and executive producer Sanaa Hamri about the latest season of Prime Video‘s fantasy drama series, The Wheel of Time. Season 2 premiered exclusively on the streaming platform on September 1st .

Based on the best-selling Robert Jordan fantasy novel series, The Wheel of Time follows “a humble farm boy, Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski, Gran Turismo), learns he is The Dragon Reborn—a dangerous figure from history destined to save the world … or break it. Desperate to protect him from the Dark One, an army of powerful sorceresses must reckon with his burgeoning power and encroaching madness.” The Wheel of Time also stars Rosamund Pike (Gone GirlI Care a Lot) as Moiraine Damodred, Daniel Henney (Criminal Minds) as Lan Mandragoran, Zoë Robins (Power Rangers Ninja Steel) as Nynaeve al’Meara, Madeleine Madden (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Egwene al’Vere, Marcus Rutherford (Obey) as Perrin Aybara, Dónal Finn (Rogue Heroes) as Mat Cauthon, and Ceara Coveney (Young Wallander) as Elayne Trakand.

In our interview, Sanaa Hamri talks about the darkness in season 2 from a directorial perspective: “In a fantasy genre, you have to really create the environment and a lot of it to me is about creating organic light and making it feel like you can almost touch and smell it. When you see Lady Suroth arrive you feel like it’s really happening but it still has all the cool shots, and it’s a way of combining immense visuals that are epic with imitate camera work for when you’re directing the high drama.”

The season 2 finale of The Wheel of Time premieres Friday, October 6th on Prime Video.
