We were joined on the Popternative show by iconic professional wrestler and actor, CM Punk who is a recurring guest star on the new supernatural mystery series, Revival. Based on the best selling comic series from Tim Seeley and Mike Norton, the series also contains horror and thriller themes. It premiered on SYFY on June 12.
Starring Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp), Revival follows a community in rural Wisconsin, where the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves. When local Officer and single mother Dana Cypress is unexpectedly thrown into the center of a brutal murder mystery of her own, she’s left to make sense of the chaos amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion.
The cast also includes Romy Weltman (Backstage), David James Elliott (Heels), Andy McQueen (Outer Banks), Steven Ogg (The Walking Dead), Gia Sandhu (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), Katherine King So (Transplant), Maia Jae (Gen V), Nathan Dales (Letterkenny), Mark Little (Mr. D), Glen Gould (Tulsa King), Lara Jean Chorostecki (Chucky), and Conrad Coates (Fargo).

On adapting a comic book series into television series, CM Punk says, “I was pretty caught up on Revival. I think [the series] is pretty close to the source material, especially in this day and age when we get so far away from most source material. I didn’t feel I was ping ponged in between the source material or trying to do something different. The character I play I think was pretty straightforward in the book and it translated to the silver screen.”
He also dives into his favorite genre: horror, “There is so much that can be done with horror. I find horror to be the most socially conscious genre. It always has something to say about topical stuff, and I think Revival is no different.”
