We were joined on the Popternative show by Christina Chang to discuss her latest role as Jean in the Netflix workplace comedy series, Unstable, as well as playing Dr. Audrey Lim in the popular ABC medical drama, The Good Doctor, which just had its season six finale on May 1.
Unstable is co-created by and stars Rob Lowe and his real life son John Owen Lowe, and premiered on March 30. The series also stars Sian Clifford (Fleabag, Life After Life, Quiz), Rachel Marsh (Head of the Class, iCarly), Emma Ferreira (Transplant, Learn to Swim), Aaron Branch (Lining, Kenan, Millennials), and Fred Armisen (Our Flag Means Death, Portlandia).
Unstable Synopsis
Ellis Dragon (Rob Lowe) is a universally admired, eccentric, narcissist-adjacent biotech entrepreneur working to make the world a better place. He’s also in emotional free-fall. His son Jackson Dragon (John Owen Lowe) is… none of those things. Can Jackson save Ellis and his company and salvage their estranged relationship while also doing what may actually be impossible: escaping the shadow of his larger-than-life father?

Christina discusses what it was like working with the Unstable ensemble cast: “I love that it’s intergenerational. It was a little surreal to be like ‘oh hey, I get to play the friend and fellow co-worker of someone who used to be like on a poster in my room’ [referring to Rob Lowe]. So that was kind of a surreal, meta-weird moment for me, and then observing Johnny and Rob’s relationship play out, fictionally but maybe also non-fictionally, and also it was very cool to work with Sian Clifford whom I adore, more so now that I met her, but also was a huge fan of from Fleabag.” She also talks about the popularity and fan-base dedication of The Good Doctor, as well as the emotional storylines her character is involved in.
