Check out what Charlie Bushnell had to say.

When did you decide that storytelling/acting was something you wanted to do?

CB: You know what, I can tell you the exact moment that I knew I wanted to try acting. It was March 2017. I sat down and binge-watched season 1 of Stranger Things and it just hit me like a lightning bolt… “I want to do THAT!” I completely fell in love with the world of Stranger Things. But looking back, I’ve always been interested in acting and storytelling. I would create these super elaborate worlds with my toys and create different voices for each of them. Also, I loved making short films with my friends, long before I realized I wanted to act professionally. Man… those were fun times!

What is the best thing about being a storyteller in your opinion?

CB: Honestly, to me, one of the best parts about storytelling is the connection I’ve felt with people from all over the world. We’ve gotten messages from fans telling us how much they love the show or relate to the characters and storyline, and that means so much. It’s shown me these stories are universal and super important to tell.

What is the best advice someone has ever given you?

CB: As far as I know, we only have one life, so just go for it! That’s what I tell myself whenever I feel nervous or scared to do something. Also, try dipping your fries in a milkshake. My sister gave me that advice years ago and it’s oddly spectacular.

What can you tell us about season 2 of Diary of a Future President?

CB: I’m so excited for everyone to see season 2! We put a lot of love into the making of it. I don’t want to give away too much, but a lot happens! This season we dive even deeper into the stories and you get to see how much our characters have grown and evolved since season 1. Bobby, my character, is in high school now and he has some really great moments. There are a lot of big changes in his life and you get to see how he deals with them. ALSO, Bobby meets some really cool new people in high school…and that’s all I’ll say about that 🙂

What was your mindset filming season 2 compared to season 1?

CB: Well, season 1 of Diary was literally my first acting job. I had never stepped foot on a set before! At first, it was terrifying and I didn’t know what to expect but I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience. There was always such a fun and supportive energy on set during the filming of season 1 and that just continued on through season 2. I definitely felt a lot more confident and experienced the second time around. I had a greater understanding of my character, so that was very helpful as well. Overall, we had an absolute blast filming season 2 and I’m hopeful, and looking forward to a season 3!

When people watch season 2 of the show, what are you hoping they get out of it?

CB: I hope people really feel the show. It’s so relatable and fun and deals with real life issues in such a natural way. I hope people will connect with our characters, see themselves represented onscreen and that it can help open up conversations about really important issues.

How does it feel to be part of the Disney+ family?

CB: It’s sooooo coooool!!! I’m such a huge fan of Disney+ so to actually be on a show alongside some of MY favorite shows is just too surreal and I’m beyond grateful to be a part of the family!
