We were joined on the Popternative show by Carson Rowland to discuss the upcoming third season of Sweet Magnolias premiering July 20 on Netflix. The series, which premiered in May 2020, centers around three best friends, Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue, born and raised in Serenity, SC, a small southern town where everybody knows everybody and everybody knows everybody’s business. Sweet Magnolias is based on the popular series of novels by New York Times best-selling author Sherryl Woods.
Season 3’s cast includes JoAnna Garcia Swisher as Maddie Townsend, Brooke Elliott as Dana Sue Sullivan, Heather Headley as Helen Decatur, Chris Klein as Bill Townsend, Jamie Lynn Spears as Noreen Fitzgibbons, Justin Bruening as Cal Maddox, Carson Rowland as Tyler (Ty) Townsend, Logan Allen as Kyle Townsend, Chris Medlin as Isaac Downey, Anneliese Judge as Annie Sullivan, Brandon Quinn as Ronnie Sullivan, and Dion Johnstone as Erik Whitley.
In our interview, Carson discusses the character growth Ty has gone through since the first season:
“I started portraying him when he was a sophomore in high school, and then senior year, and that’s such a time of growth for a young man’s life and that’s kind of Ty’s theme throughout all 3 seasons is this growth and this choosing a path and how his childhood potential is narrowed in, and you have to choose something, where are you going to college, are you pursuing baseball, and so that is kind of Ty’s journey and it’s been really fun to kind of grow along with Ty.”
He also tells us what we can expext from the upcoming new season. Watch the full interview with Carson below.
