We were joined on the Popternative show by Bernardo Badillo about some of his recent projects including Emily The Criminal starring alongside Aubrey Plaza, and the series This Fool on Hulu. Emily The Criminal premiered to rave reviews at Sundance 2022, and made its wide release on August 12th. Bernardo portrays Javier, Emily’s partner in a catering company, and ultimately the catalyst for her downward spiral into the world of credit card scams.
This Fool premiered on Hulu on the same date and is a comedy set in working-class South Central Los Angeles executive produced by Fred Armisen. It centers on Julio Lopez (Chris Estrada), a 30-year-old who still lives at home and works at Hugs Not Thugs, a nonprofit that offers rehabilitation for gang members. He and his family take in his older cousin Luis, an ex-gang member who just got out of prison.
In our interview, Bernardo talks about his characters in both projects, the positive reception Emily The Criminal has received, the genre bending component of the film and much more.
