We were joined on the Popternative show by Aziz Ansari (Master of None, Parks and Recreation) to discuss his feature directorial debut, Good Fortune, out now in theaters. Aziz also writes, produces and stars in the comedy drama. He stars alongside an impressive cast including Keanu Reeves (John Wick, The Matrix), Seth Rogen (The Studio, Superbad), Keke Palmer (One of Them Days, Nope), and Sandra Oh (Killing Eve, Grey’s Anatomy).
Good Fortune follows a well-meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel (Reeves) who meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist (Rogen).
“I really wanted to make a movie that was just very funny that people could watch in the theaters and laugh. That experience is not as frequent now; less comedies [have come] out in theaters after the pandemic and everything. So, it’s been great to have the movie finally come out and to do these screenings where we’ve been seeing audiences have that experience of laughing with other people as a communal experience,” Aziz tells us.
