We recently spoke with Austin Aaron on the Popternative show who portrays Los Angeles Lakers forward Mark Landsberger in the new HBO sports drama series, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. The series recently premiered on March 6, 2022, and covers the rise and success of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 80s. It also stars John C. Reilly, Adrien Brody, Quincy Isaiah, DeVaughn Nixon, Jason Clarke, Sally Field, Solomon Hughes, Gaby Hofmann and Jason Segel. Austin also previously starred in Netflix’s hit drama series 13 Reasons Why (2017-2020) as jock antagonist Luke Holliday.

In our interview, Austin tells us about the excitement of being a Winning Time series regular: “I did all this research on Mark Landsberger, trying to figure out who the heck this guy was. Because I had no idea. I knew Magic [Johnson], I knew Kareem [Abdul-Jabbar], I knew Michael Cooper, but I’m like ‘let’s figure out who I’m playing,’ and it was just the most blessed feeling.” We also discuss how Austin’s portrayal of Mark is the comic relief of the series and some great moments, especially with Adrien Brody. We of course then get into 13 Reasons Why and what it was like being part of quite a serious storyline.
