We were joined on the Popternative show by Amie Donald who plays M3GAN in the horror film M3GAN which was released in theaters on January 6th. The film follows 8-year-old Cady (Violet McGraw) who goes to live with her aunt Gemma (Allison Williams) after the death of her parents. As an engineer at a robotics toy company, Gemma creates a prototype doll named M3GAN (Model 3 Generative Android) who befriends Cady. However, as M3GAN learns more about society and the world around her, she begins to develop new and deadly methods to protect Cady.

M3GAN is voiced by singer-songwriter and actress Jenna Davis, and Amie is the actress portraying the murderous dancing doll. Although Amie doesn’t have lines in the film, she tells us in our interview that her audition included her saying some of the lines: “Jenna did the voice which is amazing, but we went into the audition and the first audition was a self tape, and a couple of days later they asked me to come in and meet Gerard [the director] which was really awesome […] And then that Saturday we found out that I got the role.”

Amie also tells us about preparing for her role and what it was like to play M3GAN without any lines, and how her dance scenes were created.

M3GAN is streaming on Peacock.
