We were joined on the Popternative show by Alisha Newton who can be seen playing Erin in the new Netflix coming-of-age series, My Life with the Walter Boys. The series premiered on December 7th and is based on the popular 2014 Wattpad novel of the same name by by Ali Novak.
The series follows Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez) who loses her entire family in a tragic accident and is sent to a small rural town in Colorado with her new guardian – her mother’s best friend, Katherine (Sarah Rafferty), who is raising ten kids with her husband, George (Marc Blucas). Jackie is determined to stay focused on getting into Princeton while getting used to her new life, all while wrapping her head around her feelings for two very different Walter brothers: the reliable and bookish Alex (Ashby Gentry), and the mysterious and troubled Cole (Noah LaLonde).
Alisha plays Erin, Cole’s on and off again girlfriend who isn’t initially welcoming to Jackie as she tries to get used to her new school and community. Throughout the season, we learn a lot about Erin’s life and her character begins to shift in really interesting ways.
When asked about her role, Alisha says, “When I got asked to play the role of Erin, I was really apprehensive because I didn’t realize Erin had this beautiful arc throughout the season, I think I only read the first episode. So I hopped on the phone with our amazing showrunner Melanie [Halsall] and she told me all about Erin’s arc throughout the season, if we were to get a season 2 what that might look like for her, and it got me super excited to be a part of the show and I am so grateful to play the part of Erin because I think she is very multifaceted and has one of the best arcs in the show.”
