We were joined on the Popternative show by Ali Fumiko Whitney who can be seen playing Melina alongside Harry Connick Jr. in the new Netflix rom-com, Find Me Falling, now streaming on the platform. Coming off a flop album and his biggest hit’s dwindling popularity, aging rock star John Allman (Harry Connick Jr.) decides to take a break from his career to reclaim his spark by moving to an isolated cliffside in Cyprus. His dream of keeping a low profile is derailed when he is confronted by desperate souls and later faced with even more complicated surprises when an old flame reignites.
Melina (Ali Fumiko Whitney) works at a local restaurant where she sings and helps guide John on his life on the Island as they both connect on their love of music. As the film progresses, they both learn they are connected in a way they never could have imagined.
Ali can also soon be seen playing Liv in the upcoming slasher/horror #AMFAD: All My Friends Are Dead, releasing in select theaters and On Demand on August 2nd. It follows a group of college friends who rent an Airbnb for the biggest music festival of the year. But a weekend of partying quickly takes a turn, as the group is murdered one by one, according to their sin.
#AMFAD also stars Jade Pettyjohn (Little Fires Everywhere), Jennifer Ens (Chapelwaite), Michaella Russell (Echoes of Violence), Julian Haig (Riverdale), Justin Derickson (Monster High: The Movie), Cardi Wong (Are You Afraid of the Dark?), Jack Doupe-Smith, and Jojo Siwa.
In our interview, Ali discusses working with Harry Connick Jr. on Find Me Falling, reading the script and then going to film in Cyprus. She also talks about working in the horror genre with the upcoming film AMFAD: All My Friends Are Dead and the excitement around the genre.
