We were joined on the Popternative show by Adam DiMarco (Overcompensating, The White Lotus), to discuss the atmospheric horror series, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen which premiered on March 26 on Netflix.
DiMarco stars as Nicky alongside Camila Morrone (The Night Manager, Daisy Jones & The Six) as Rachel in the 8-episode miniseries. Blending supernatural with mystery and horror, it explores a woman’s path to her wedding day, with plenty of shocking twists.
From creator and showrunner Haley Z. Boston (Brand New Cherry Flavor, Hunters), the cast also includes Jeff Wilbusch (Unorthodox, The Calling), Karla Crome (Toxic Town, Am I Being Unreasonable?), Gus Birney (Black Rabbit, Shining Vale), Jennifer Jason Leigh (Fargo, The Hateful Eight), Ted Levine (Monk, Mayfair Witches), and Sawyer Fraser (Riceboy Sleeps, The Baby-Sitters Club).
Taking place at Nicky’s family’s cabin, DiMarco describes the series’ setting as having a “sinister quality” that pulls viewers in. While the exterior is a real home in Ontario, Canada, much of the interior was built on stages to create an immersive environment.
“[It was] beautifully designed, but it also had this darkness to it. It was two sets with the hallway that would connect them [but they built] a lot of the other stuff as the show went on. The basement [and other rooms] were built on another stage. A lot of it was was shot on the stage, but it didn’t really feel like it was a stage. It it felt like you were just chilling at home.”
