Netflix today announced that Idris Elba (Hijack, A House of Dynamite) will once again reprise his role as detective John Luther from the popular series, Luther (2010-2019), in a second feature film. The new film will serve as a follow-up to 2023’s Luther: The Fallen Sun.
Elba will also be reuniting with costars Dermot Crowley (The Woman in the Wall, The Best Offer) as Martin Schenk, and Ruth Wilson (A Very Royal Scandal, The Affair) as Alice Morgan. Per Netflix, “The next installment in the Luther universe will explore a murder spree that can only be solved by the titular detective. Keep reading to find out what’s next for Luther.”
Netflix also provided a synopsis for the new Luther film: “When a wave of brutal, seemingly random murders hits London, Luther is secretly called back into service. But how can he save London when everyone on all sides seems to want him dead?”
Director Jamie Payne returns as well and tells Tudum, “I am also thrilled to be reunited with the brilliant and dangerous Alice Morgan, played by the extraordinarily talented Ruth Wilson. Fans new and old are in for a treat!”
