We were joined on the Popternative show by writer and director Stephen Cognetti to discuss the fifth installment in the Hell House LLC horror franchise, Hell House LLC: Lineage. The latest entry premiered on Shudder on October 30, just in time for Halloween, and takes a different approach as it forgoes the found footage format seen in the last films.

Haunted by visions and recurring nightmares years after a near-death experience, Lineage follows Vanessa Shepard (Elizabeth Vermilyea, Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire) as she finds herself living in the town of Abaddon, unable to break free from its unexplainable hold on her.

When people around her suddenly and inexplicably begin to die, she soon uncovers her terrifying connection to the Abaddon Hotel, the Carmichael Manor and the mysterious murders that have been occurring for decades, long before Hell House LLC. The film also stars Searra Sawka (Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor) and Mike Sutton (A Host of Sparrows).

“What I love about the success of Hell House and other independent films in the same vein as Hell House is that people still want to see them no matter the budget, no matter who is in it or not. Horror audiences want a good scare and it doesn’t take a lot to do that. It doesn’t take millions of dollars to scare people. Horror keeps on growing and I love consuming horror, I love making horror, so it’s just great for the industry that horror has gotten as big as it has,” Cognetti says.
