Williams will star alongside Julia Garner (Inventing Anna, Ozark) and Anthony Boyle (House of Guinness, Masters of the Air). Williams will portray Duncan Rheingans‑Yoo.
Also joining the series are Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing, A Real Pain) as Sarah Fisher Ellison, Terry Chen (Almost Famous, House of Cards) as CZ, Elizabeth Adams (Wayward) as Hannah, Hannah Galway (The Institute, Billy the Kid) as Lucy, William Mapother (Lost, Another Earth) as Dr. Lerner, Paul Reiser (The Kominsky Method, Mad About You) as Joe Bankman, Robin Weigert (Deadwood, Big Little Lies) as Barbara Fried, Maddie Hasson (Bone Lake, The Recruit) as Lauren Platt, and Marianna Phung (Y: The Last Man, Poly is the New Monogamy) as Lily Zhang.
Per Netflix, The Altruists “tells the story of Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison, two hyper-smart, ambitious young idealists who tried to remake the global financial system in the blink of an eye — before they were accused of stealing $8 billion and became Gen Z’s own Bonnie and Clyde.”
Graham Moore (The Imitation Game, The Outfit) and Jacqueline Hoyt (The Leftovers, The Good Wife) will co-showrun and executive produce the series.
Previously announced cast include Alex Lawther (Alien Earth, The End of the F***ing World) as Sam Trabucco, Matt Rife (Rolling Loud) as Ryan Salame, Madison Hu (Rooster, Voyagers) as Constance Wang, Karan Soni (Deadpool, Miracle Workers) as Nishad Singh, Eugene Young (Veep, NCIS: Los Angeles) as Gary Wang, and Naomi Okada (Q Train) as Claire Watanabe.
“For nearly three years now, Sam and Caroline’s story has been my daily obsessio. I’m so grateful to my friends at Netflix and Higher Ground for loving this story not only as much as I do, but in the same way that I do. And we can’t wait to show all of you why,” Moore tells Tudum.
