Today, during Sony’s press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show, co-creator, writer, and executive producer Neil Druckmann announced that The Last of Us Season 2 will debut this April on HBO and Max.
The seven-episode second season takes places five years after the events of the first season where Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind. Season 2 returning cast includes Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Maria.
Previously announced new cast includes Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart) as Abby, Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus) as Dina, Young Mazino (Beef) as Jesse, Ariela Barer (Runaways) as Mel, Tati Gabrielle (The 100) as Nora, Spencer Lord (Heartland) as Owen, Danny Ramirez (Top Gun: Maverick) as Manny, and Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction) as Isaac. Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek) also guest stars.
Based on the acclaimed video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal and heartbreaking journey as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
