
Netflix today released first look photos from their upcoming limited series Painkiller which will premiere on August 10. Based on the book Pain Killer by Barry Meier and the New Yorker Magazine article “The Family That Built the Empire of Pain” by Patrick Radden Keefe, the series explores some of the origins and aftermath of the opioid crisis in The United States. It highlights the stories of the perpetrators, victims, and truth-seekers whose lives are forever altered by the invention of OxyContin.

The 6-episode series stars Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black), Matthew Broderick (The Producers), Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), Dina Shihabi (Archive 81), West Duchovny (Saint X), and John Rothman (One Mississippi), with guest stars Clark Gregg (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Jack Mulhern (The Society), Sam Anderson (A Million Little Things), Ana Cruz Kayne (Jerry and Marge Go Large), Brian Markinson (Continuum), Noah Harpster (For All Mankind), John Ales (Who Are You People), Johnny Sneed (Trumbo), Carolina Bartczak (Moonfall), and Tyler Ritter (Homecoming).


The series is created by Micah Fitzerman-Blue (Transparent) and Noah Harpster (For All Mankind), directed by Peter Berg (Patriots Day), and executive produced by Peter Berg, Eric Newman (Narcos: Mexico), and Alex Gibney (Death Row Stories).
