Netflix today dropped a first look image of Michael Fassbender as Joe Kennedy, Sr. from the upcoming series, Kennedy, now in production. The series is based on Fredrik Logevall’s book, JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956, and season one will will center on Joe Sr. and Rose Kennedy in the 1930s and their nine children. Fassbender portays the patriarch of the Kennedy family, a self-made multimillionaire who was the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1938 to 1940.
Sam Shaw (Castle Rock, Manhattan) is Kennedy’s showrunner and executive producer. Thomas Vinterberg (The Hunt, Another Round) will direct the first and last episodes.
Per Netflix, “Kennedy reveals the intimate lives, loves, rivalries, and tragedies that shaped the most iconic dynasty in modern history, and helped create the world we live in today. Beginning in the 1930s, the first season charts the improbable ascent of Joe and Rose Kennedy and their nine children, including the rebellious second son, Jack, who struggles to escape the shadow of his golden-boy older brother.”
Netflix also revealed the rest of the cast:
- Laura Donnelly (The Nevers, Say Nothing) plays Rose Kennedy, the matriarch of the Kennedy family.
- Nick Robinson (A Teacher, Maid) plays Joe Kennedy Jr., the eldest child and first son of Joe Sr. and Rose Kennedy, who served as a naval aviator during World War II and was the first in the family to be groomed for a political career.
- Joshuah Melnick (Saint X, Please Don’t Feed the Children) plays Jack Kennedy., the second child and second son who served as a commander in the U.S. Navy before his eventual election as the 35th President of the United States.
- Ben Miles (Andor, The Crown) plays Eddie Moore, longtime confidant and personal secretary to Joe Kennedy Sr.
- Lydia Peckham (Robin Hood, Nuremberg) plays Rosemary Kennedy, the third child of Joe Sr. and Rose Kennedy.
- Saura Lightfoot-Leon (The Agency, American Primeval) plays Kick Kennedy, the fourth child of Joe Sr. and Rose Kennedy.
- Georgina Bitmead (The Assassin) plays Eunice Kennedy, the fifth child of Joe Sr. and Rose Kennedy.
- Cole Doman (The Mastermind, Mutt) plays Lem Billings, a close friend and school roommate of Jack Kennedy.
- Imogen Poots (The Chronology of Water, All of You) plays Gloria Swanson, a legendary star of the silent film era who became a business associate of Joe Kennedy Sr.
