Netflix today revealed first look photos from the upcoming Western drama series, The Abandons created by Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy, The Shield), premiering December 4.
The series has a large ensemble cast led by Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, 300), Gillian Anderson (Sex Education, The X Files), Nick Robinson (Damsel, Love, Simon), Diana Silvers (Booksmart, Ma), Lamar Johnson (The Last of Us, Your Honor), Natalia del Riego (Promised Land, Hail Mar), Lucas Till (MacGyver, X-Men: First Class), and Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale, Speak No Evil).

Additional cast are Toby Hemingway (The Crossing, The Covenant), Michael Greyeyes (40 Acres, 1923), Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead), Katelyn Wells (Ginny & Georgia, Anne with an E), Clayton Cardenas (Mayans M.C., American Crime), Elle-Maija Tailfeathers (The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open), Brían F. O’Byrne (Conclave, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead), Marc Menchaca (Dexter: Resurrection, Ozark), Patton Oswalt (The Sandman, The King of Queens), Michael Ornstein (Sons of Anarchy, Mayans M.C.), Jonathan Koensgen (Reacher, FUBAR), Jack Doolan (Sisu, Marcella), Michiel Huisman(The Flight Attendant, The Haunting of Hill House), Haig Sutherland (Lucky Hank, Stargate Universe), and Sarah White (The Bastard Executioner).

The logline reads, “Washington Territory – 1854 – The matriarchs of two very different families — one of wealth and privilege bound by blood, the other a found family of orphans and outcasts bound by love and necessity — find their fates linked by two crimes, an awful secret, a star-crossed love, and a piece of land with silver underneath. The collision echoes the American struggle of the haves and have-nots, in a place just beyond the reach of justice.”

Executive Producer Chris Keyser (The Society, Party of Five) tells Netflix’s Tudum, “This first chapter of The Abandons is a classic American story – the frontier, two families – both at war and in love with each other, a battle over who owns the land and who makes the rules. So, smack in the middle of murder and revenge and a bit of illicit romance, we also get to explore all of these questions we never seem to get away from: What makes a family? How do you stay good in a bad world? And, would you change who you are and what you believe in to protect what you love? But, in this case, we do it all through the eyes of Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson, as two widowed matriarchs battling to survive. And that, as they say, is really something to watch.”
