Netflix today revealed first look photos from the upcoming murder mystery, The Thursday Murder Club, based on Richard Osman’s 2020 international bestselling novel of the same name. The film will arrive on Netflix on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
Directed by Chris Columbus (Rent, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone), the film stars Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan who also co-star in the Paramount+ series MobLand, alongside Ben Kingsley (Shutter Island, Gandhi), Celia Imrie (The Diplomat, Better Things), Naomi Ackie (Mickey 17, Blink Twice), Daniel Mays (Moonflower Murders, Code 404), Henry Lloyd-Hughes (We Were the Lucky Ones, Archie), Tom Ellis (Tell Me Lies, Lucifer), Jonathan Pryce (Wolf Hall, Slow Horses), David Tennant (Good Omens, Doctor Who), Paul Freeman (Absentia, Raiders of the Lost Ark), Geoff Bell (MobLand, RocknRolla), Richard E. Grant (Death of a Unicorn, Saltburn), and Ingrid Oliver (Sweetpea, Doctor Who).
The synopsis for The Thursday Murder Club reads, “The Thursday Murder Club follows four irrepressible retirees – Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce (Celia Imrie) – who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun. When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands.”
Director Chris Columbus tells Tudum, “This is the finest cast I’ve worked with since [Harry] Potter. They’re just so incredibly well-prepared, and it’s because they do everything. They do theater, they do television, they do film, and they’ve developed those sorts of muscles.”
