Yesterday, Elle Fanning released an image on Instagram from season two of Hulu’s comedy series The Great. In the photo (below), we see a pregnant Empress Catherine the Great followed by the caption “Cooking up something special for season 2 #TheGreat #firstlook.

2021 Nominations

Hulu’s satirical, comedic drama picked up several Golden Globes and SAG nominations. Elle Fanning received a Golden Globes nomination for Best Actress in a TV Series, Comedy, and her co-star Nicholas Hoult, who plays Emperor Peter III of All Russia, picked up a nomination for Best Actor in a TV Series, Comedy. The series is also nominated for Best TV Series, Comedy which is a packed category including Emily in Paris, The Flight Attendant, Schitt’s Creek and Ted Lasso. The Great also picked up SAG nominations for Best Comedy Series Ensemble, and Best Comedy Series Actor (Nicholas Hoult). However, SAG left out Fanning for the Best Comedy Series Actress category.

No Date Yet for Season 2

All 10 episodes of season one dropped on Hulu on May 15, 2020. Season one ended with Peter (Hoult) discovering Catherine’s (Fanning) plan to overthrow him. But after learning of her pregnancy, he decides not kill her for the sake of their unborn baby. There is no word yet on when season 2 will be released as production has been delayed due to covid-19.
