Netflix today revealed first look photos and the date announcement for the upcoming Western series, American Primeval. It will premiere on January 9, 2025. The series is written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant), directed/created by Pete Berg (Friday Night Lights), and executive produced by Eric Newman (Griselda).
The synopsis reads, “This is America…1857. Up is down, pain is everywhere, innocence and tranquility are losing the battle to hatred and fear. Peace is the shrinking minority, and very few possess grace — even fewer know compassion. There is no safe haven in these brutal lands, and only one goal matters: survival. American Primeval is a fictionalized dramatization and examination of the violent collision of culture, religion, and community as men and women fight and die to keep or control this land.”
The ensemble cast includes Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights, Battleship), Betty Gilpin (GLOW, The Hunt), Dane DeHaan (Oppenheimer, The Staircase), Saura Lightfoot-Leon (Masters of the Air, Hoard), Derek Hinkey (Horizon: An American Saga), Joe Tippett (The Morning Show, Mare of Easttown), Jai Courtney (Kaleidoscope, Suicide Squad), Preston Mota (Asteroid City), Shawnee Pourier (Dark Winds), and Shea Whigham (Perry Mason, Lawmen: Bass Reeves).
Guest stars include Kim Coates (White House Plumbers, Sons of Anarchy), Lucas Neff (Power Book III: Raising Kanan), Kyle Davis (American Horror Story), Tokala Black Elk (Yellowstone), Nick Hargrove (Charmed), Irene Bedard (Alaska Daily, Pocahontas), Nanabah Grace, Alex Breaux (Joe Pickett), Dominic Bogart (Just Mercy), Alex Fine (1883), Kip Weeks (The Strangers), and Jeremiah Bitsui (Better Call Saul).
“We are very appreciative that Netflix is trusting us to take a big swing with American Primeval,” director and executive producer Pete Berg (Friday Night Lights, Lone Survivor) told Netflix. “I’m looking forward to taking viewers into the most dynamic, intense, and heart-pounding survival tale humanly possible. We are going into the belly of the beast.”
