
Apple TV+ today revealed a first look at the upcoming crime drama series Smoke starring and executive produced by Taron Egerton (Carry-On, Black Bird) and created by Dennis Lehane (Black Bird, The Outsider). The nine-episode series premieres globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, June 27, 2025 with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Friday through August 8.
Inspired by true events, Smoke follows a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator as they pursue the trails of two serial arsonists.
Starring Taron Egerton as arson investigator Dave Gudsen, and Jurnee Smollett (The Burial, Lovecraft Country) as police detective Michelle Calderone, Smoke also features Rafe Spall (Trying, Life of Pi), Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (The Chi, The Lincoln Lawyer), Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw, The Purge), Anna Chlumsky (Inventing Anna, Veep), Adina Porter (American Horror Story, True Blood), Greg Kinnear (Shining Veil, Black Bird), and John Leguizamo (Bob Trevino Likes It, The Menu).
Smoke is created by Lehane, who also serves as writer and executive producer. Egerton executive produces alongside Richard Plepler (Black Brird) on behalf of EDEN Productions, Bradley Thomas (Killers of the Flower Moon, Black Bird) and Dan Friedkin (Landman, Black Bird) through Imperative Entertainment, and Kari Skogland (The Handmaid’s Tale, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Joe Chappelle (Godfather of Harlem, Black Bird), and Jane Bartelme (Dopesick, 13 Reasons Why).
The fictional series is inspired by truth.media’s acclaimed Firebug podcast, which was hosted by Kary Antholis, who executive produces for Crime Story Media, LLC. Marc Smerling serves as executive producer for Truth Podcasting Corp. Series directors include Skogland, Chappelle, and Jim McKay.
