Fallout Season 2 Trailer Reveals Mr. House Survived New Vegas’s Events, So Which Ending Is Canon?

The dice has been rolled as Fallout Season 2 will arrive on Prime Video in gloriously gruesome fashion. With the release of Season 2’s official trailer, it has answered some burning questions regarding the uneasy relationship between the Brotherhood of Steel and Caesar’s Legion, what Lucy’s father, Hank, is truly up to, and much more. Although there’s one surprising detail from today’s trailer that’s put old and new Fallout fans in a spin: Mr. House survived.

For those unfamiliar, Mr. House is an iconic character from the Fallout games, being a cunning boss of his own tech company who took over the city of Las Vegas. He was able to survive the nuclear explosions and kept himself in hibernation until turning Las Vegas into his own city-state. He made a cameo previously in Season 1, during the meeting between all the big CEOs that nearly caused Cooper Howard, aka the Ghoul, to break down.

While fans assumed that Mr. House did not survive the events of Fallout: New Vegas, likely due to the location’s state being teased in the Season 1 finale credits, it turns out that isn’t true. In fact, the Season 2 official trailer reveals that Mr. House is alive and well as the Ghoul encounters him at his own headquarters, the Lucky 38.

Given this, the biggest question now is how did Mr. House not only manages to survive what happens in Fallout: New Vegas, but which ending from the games is actually canon to the universe of the series?

In Fallout: New Vegas, players can take different routes and make certain choices with multiple characters and groups to come up with their own endings. For example, players can decide to kill Mr. House or allow him to gain more power and stop the other rivaling groups, mainly the New California Republic and Caesar’s Legion.

With the Season 2 trailer revealing that Mr. House is alive, it could be assumed that the player, named the Courier, took House’s side and drove these two groups back from New Vegas. As such, House and the Courier could have had a strong relationship, depending on if the player made good or bad choices towards House.

Furthermore, because the Courier took House’s side, this means that other groups within New Vegas were heavily affected. This includes the Kings, an Elvis-inspired vigilante-mercenary group whose members appear to be zombified (or, in Fallout’s case, “ghoul-ified”) in Season 2’s trailer.

It’s very likely that House could have deployed his Securitrons to destroy the Kings, causing the group’s survivors to scavenge and succumb to the Wasteland’s dangers. This would explain why most of the remaining Kings lash out against Lucy and other wastelanders.

Additionally, the Courier taking House’s side would also be the cause of Caesar’s Legion being relocated to a different area outside of New Vegas’s boundaries. Since they would have lost many soldiers during their reclamation of Hoover Dam in Fallout: New Vegas, it’s clear that the group in the series is much smaller than it once was. However, given how it looks like they’re recruiting, Season 2 might see Caesar’s Legion coming back to Vegas.

As for the Mojave chapter of Brotherhood of Steel within New Vegas, because the Courier sided with House, it’s likely that its remaining members could have moved further west to join the chapter led by Maximus. It would likely be the reason that the Brotherhood goes back to New Vegas as well, also driven to reclaim an important location once under their ownership: HELIOS One.

In fact, the members of the Mojave chapter retreating to join Maximus’s side would explain how Maximus knows about the Legion’s activities. Although, given how there’s a mention of a civil war happening within the Brotherhood of Steel and Dane looking to take the Elder’s side rather than Maximus, the Brotherhood’s reclamation of lost New Vegas property will be put on hold.

Another locale that also makes its appearance in Season 2 from Fallout: New Vegas is Novac, a former independent community that was often targeted by the Legion. Most people know this real life location as Cabazon Dinosaurs. Given how the Legion was driven back thanks to the Courier and House, it’s clear that the Novac community has thrived, but Lucy and the Ghoul’s activities certainly cause more unneeded action.

As for the present circumstances regarding other characters and communities from Fallout: New Vegas, they remain unknown as the world-building of Season 2 still remains mysterious. However, it’s clear that much has happened in the world of the Fallout series and time will tell what happened to other fan-favorite characters, like Boone and Raul.

Fallout Season 2 premieres on Wednesday, December 17, on Prime Video, with new episodes weekly.
