Netflix’s newest animated comedy series, Exploding Kittens, premiered on July 12, and the title might sound familiar. The series is based on the best-selling card game of the same name first published by The Oatmeal in 2015. Lending their voices to Exploding Kittens are Tom Ellis (Players, Lucifer), Sasheer Zamata (Saturday Night Live, Home Economics), Suzy Nakamura (Dead to Me, Avenue 5), Mark Proksch (What We Do in the Shadows, Ten Year Old Tom), Ally Maki (The Big Door Prize, Wrecked), and Kenny Yates (Evil at the Door, Confined).

The series follows God (voiced by Tom Ellis) who gets fired and is sent to Earth to reconnect with humanity but he is in the body of a chubby house cat named Godcat. As part of his rehabilitation, he moves in with a dysfunctional family and tries to solve their problems, but ends up spending a lot of time chasing laser pointers. Godcat’s next-door neighbor, who is also a cat, turns out to be none other than his nemesis, the Antichrist. The result is the ultimate fight between good versus evil…except, Godcat is distracted by a pigeon he saw in the yard and Devilcat (voiced by Sasheer Zamata) is busy napping on someone’s laptop.

In our interview, Tom Ellis discusses voicing a character he is familiar with, God, from his time on Lucifer. Sasheer Zamata tells us about being part of a series adapted from a card game which still keeps the original tone of the game. Watch the full conversation below.

Exploding Kittens is streaming on Netflix.
