Netflix has announced that Jane Austen’s classic novel, Pride and Prejudice, will be adapted into a six-part limited series for the streaming platform starring Emma Corrin (Nosferatu, Lady Chatterley’s Lover), Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Dunkirk), and Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown).

Author Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love, Ghosts) will write the series with Euros Lyn (Heartstopper, Doctor Who) directing. Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden will star as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, and Olivia Colman will play Mrs. Bennet.

Alderton tells Tudum, “Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. The book is a gift to adapt — packed with drama and depth as well as comedy and charm. In it lies the opportunity to examine the complexities of love, family, friendship and society, while aspiring to Austen’s delightfully observational voice. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favorite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr. Darcy.”

Dolly Alderton, Emma Corrin, and Euros Lyn will executive produce the series with Laura Lankester (Gentleman Jack, Last Tango in Halifax), Will Johnston (Renegade Nell, Happy Valley), and Louise Mutter (Am I Being Unreasonable?, Gentleman Jack), and Lisa Osborne (Wolf Hall, Becoming Elizabeth) is joining as a producer.

Production will begin in the UK this year.
