Since 2023, Blumhouse has always graced New York Comic Con with its highly-anticipated showcase in the form of BlumFest, highlighting the studio’s most exciting upcoming titles. This year, Blumhouse made their return with Black Phone 2 and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, which are both set to release this year.
During the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 portion of the panel, director Emma Tammi took the stage and shared some exciting announcements. In a surprising twist, Megan Fox will be joining the film as Toy Chica, which Tammi teased as “being inspired, yet original.” Tammi also pointed out that Fox’s kids really loved the series as well!
YouTuber and renowned creator, Matthew “MatPat” Patrick, will be joining the cast as Toy Bonnie, one of the film’s newer animatronics. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s Kellen Goff will also be voicing Toy Freddy, continuing to voice another Freddy variation following Goff’s previous performance as Funtime Freddy from Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location.
Furthermore, Tammi was joined on-stage by star Elizabeth Lail, who returns as Vanessa Afton, as well as Matthew Lillard, who returns as William Afton aka Springtrap. Lillard also mentioned that, should Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 perform well, Blumhouse will be ready for Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, teasing a “mano y mano” confrontation.
However, coming out next week is Scott Derrickson’s Black Phone 2, which is set to release Friday, October 17. Jason Blum was joined by the film’s cast, including Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Miguel Mora, Demián Bichir and author Joe Hill.
Attendees got to see a special look at the film following its recent premiere at this year’s Fantastic Fest. Check out the exclusive clip’s description from Blumhouse down below!
- Finney gets a call from the phone booth from the trailers, where a ghastly Grabber taunts him for killing him and having to cope with it. Whenever the Grabber’s on screen, the film takes on a grainer visual aesthetic, reflecting the supernatural element of the film.
- Meanwhile, Gwen sneaks off to a kitchen, being lured in by the Grabber. Ernesto notices and tries to get everyone’s help to rescue Gwen. A back-and-forth confrontation between Gwen and the Grabber occurs, but only Gwen can see the apparition.
- There are a LOT of stunts that happen here, where Gwen gets thrown around the kitchen, pans go flying, and a burning oven taunts her eventual demise.
- Ernesto and his friends try to save Gwen and Finney hears this over the phone, rushing to Gwen’s aid at the last moment.
Other highlights from this year’s BlumFest also include a special clip from star Lin Shaye, who’s currently filming the upcoming Insidious sequel, set to release in 2026. Additionally, Jason Blum also teased Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, which Blum has confirmed to see a working cut of.
We also got to chat with Black Phone 2 stars Mason Tames and Madeleine McGraw about the upcoming sequel as well as Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 director Emma Tammi about all the lore that’s built up over the years. Check it all out on our YouTube channel.
Black Phone 2 releases in theaters on October 17. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 releases in theaters on December 5.
