We were joined on the Popternative show by Maggie Q (Designated Survivor), Courtney Taylor (Abbott Elementary), and John Carroll Lynch (The Founder) who star in the new police procedural series, Ballard, a new Bosch spinoff series. Ballard premiered with all 10 episodes on Prime Video on July 9 and continues in bringing Michael Connelly’s novels to life.

Ballard follows detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q) as she leads the LAPD’s new and underfunded cold case division, tackling the city’s most challenging long-forgotten crimes with empathy and relentless determination. As she peels back layers of crimes spanning decades, including a serial killer’s string of murders and a murdered John Doe, she soon uncovers a dangerous conspiracy within the LAPD. With the help of her volunteer team and retired detective Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), Detective Ballard navigates personal trauma, professional challenges, and life-threatening dangers to expose the truth.

The cast also includes Michael Mosley (The Girl from Plainville), Rebecca Field (The Residence), Victoria Moroles (Teen Wolf), Amy Hill, (Magnum P.I.) Ricardo Chavira (Desperate Housewives), Noah Bean (Nikita), Alain Uy (Power Book IV: Force), and Hector Hugo (Snowfall).

“A lot of the cases in the show are inspired by real cases that were solved, so you really want to honor the work that [these real people] have done. They are really remarkable people,” Maggie says.

On reading the scripts for the first time, Courtney tells us, “It’s written so well that you can literally see what they want to create. I got to watch a couple of episodes and I was like, ‘this is exactly what they wrote out’, this is exactly what I was told it would look like and feel like.”
