We were joined on the Popternative show by Natalie Martinez who stars alongside Vince Vaughn in the Apple TV+ black comedy crime series, Bad Monkey Developed and executive produced by Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso, Shrinking), the series premiered on the platform on August 14 with two episodes.
Bad Monkey follows the story of Andrew Yancy (Vaughn), who has been bounced from the Miami Police Department and is now a health inspector in the Florida Keys. After coming across a case that begins with a human arm found by tourists, he realizes that if he can prove it was murder, he’ll be back in the force.
Natalie plays Rosa, a medical examiner who helps Andrew on his quest in solving the case. When discussing her character, Natalie was able to bring a lot of her own experiences into play:
“This character was a lot easier to fill her shoes, because I’m also from Miami, born and raised, I’m also Cuban American, so I got to bring a lot of my flavor, a lot of my background into her which made it easy to step into her shoes.”

She also highlights the importance of a good script and on set collaboration:
“When you have such a great writer like Bill Lawrence with such a great script, it’s on the page for you. And being able to have a little freedom with her and a little fluidity working with Vince Vaughn and his improvisation skills and having that kind of collaboration made it easy to find her voice very fast.”

A new episode of Bad Monkey drops weekly on Wednesdays through October 9 on Apple TV+.
