Apple TV today revealed the official trailer for the upcoming comedy, The Dink starring an all-star cast. The film will debut on the streaming platform on July 24.
Led by Jake Johnson (Minx, New Girl), the film’s ensemble cast also includes Mary Steenburgen (A Man on the Inside, Book Club), Ed Harris (Dutton Ranch, Westworld), Ben Stiller (Meet the Parents, Dodgeball), Patton Oswalt (Ratatouille, The King of Queens), Chloe Fineman (Saturday Night Live, Summer of 69), Chris Parnell (Rick and Morty, Archer), Aaron Chen (Make that Movie, Fisk), and former professional tennis player Andy Roddick.
The synopsis reads, “Washed up former tennis prodigy Dusty Boyd (Jake Johnson) has been reduced to coaching unruly children at his father Chuck’s (Ed Harris) suburban country club. Desperate for his father’s approval, Dusty blindly supports Chuck’s vendetta against the new craze taking over the club: pickleball. But when Dusty reaggravates an old injury, taking away his ability to play tennis, he resorts to the unthinkable in the name of rehab. He not only tries pickleball, but, thanks in part to his enchanting new partner, Candace (Mary Steenburgen), he finds himself actually enjoying it. Torn between two worlds, Dusty is forced to finally face the ghosts of his past athletic failures, including his childhood nemesis, Andy Roddick (Andy Roddick). Ultimately, Dusty is drawn into a desperate battle for the future of the club, his father’s affection and his very identity.”
The Dink is directed by Josh Greenbaum (Strays, Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar), written by Sean Clements (Kevin Can F**k Himself, Workaholics), with Stiller and Johnson also serving as producers alongside John Lesher (Severance, Birdman), Rob Paris (I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, The Blackcoat’s Daughter), and Mike Witherill (Drinking Buddies, John Wick).
