Netflix today announced that Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl, Ex Machina) has joined the cast of the upcoming series Enigma Variations, based on the 2017 bestselling novel by André Aciman (author of Call Me By Your Name). Vikander will play the role of Claire.
She joins previously announced star Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nosferatu, 28 Years Later) who will lead as Paul. Per Netflix, Enigma Variations “tells the story of a man remade by the lovers who ignite and undo him over the course of six transformative years. It’s an intimate yet sweeping portrait of masculinity, sexuality, and modern love — and in a world of endless choices, it asks the question: will we know when we’ve found the one?”
Netflix describes the series as “an intimate yet sweeping portrait of masculinity, sexuality, and modern love.” Enigma Variations will be directed by Oliver Hermanus (The History of Sound, Living) and executive produced and written by showrunner Amanda Kate Shuman (The Wheel of Time, The Black List).t
The limited series hails from Media Res studios (The Morning Show, Pachinko). Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer also executive produce for Media Res, as well as André Aciman and Monica Levinson (Love Story, Say Nothing).
