A24 today dropped an official promo video for Problemista, written, directed by and starring Julio Torres (Los Espookys, Saturday Night Live). It will open in select theaters on March 1st, 2024, followed by a wide release on March 22nd.
The cast also includes Tilda Swinton (The Killer, Asteroid City), RZA (Nobody, Poker Face), Larry Owens (Dumb Money, Abbott Elementary), James Scully (Fire Island, You), Catalina Saavedra (Rotting in the Sun, The Maid), Greta Lee (Past Lives, The Morning Show), and is narrated by Isabella Rossellini (Julia, La Chimera). The film also features the original song, “Huele a Fraude,” by OHYUNG and STEFA.
The synopsis for Problemista reads: “Alejandro is an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador, struggling to bring his unusual ideas to life in New York City. As time on his work visa runs out, a job assisting an erratic art-world outcast becomes his only hope to stay in the country and realize his dream. From writer/director Julio Torres comes a surreal adventure through the equally treacherous worlds of New York City and the U.S. Immigration system.”
