Netflix‘s second season of The Witcher finally dropped on December 17 – 2 years after its debut season. We already know that a third season is on the way, which was announced in September before the second season even arrived. Fans by now have surely binged the newest season already, and are looking to fill their fantasy drama void. Here are 8 shows like The Witcher you should check out while you wait for season 3.

The Shannara Chronicles (2016 – 2017)

The Shannara Chronicles is an adaptation of The Sword of Shannara trilogy novels by Terry Brooks, and follows heroes in the Four Lands who try and stop an evil Demon army from demolishing their universe. Unfortunately, there are only 2 seasons, but it’s still worth a watch!

Stars: Austin Butler, Ivana Baquero, Manu Bennett, Aaron Jakubenko

The Letter for the King (2020 – )

This coming-of-age fantasy drama debuted in 2020, and there is still no word on Netflix’s decision to renew it for season 2. There are only 6 episodes, so it’s a fairly easy binge. The Letter for the King centers on a young squire in the Kingdom of Dagonaut who must deliver a secret letter to the King.

Stars: Amir Wilson, Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, Thaddea Graham, Islam Bouakkaz

Merlin (2008 – 2012)

The Order (2019 – 2020)

A bit more on the horror side of fantasy drama, The Order follows a college freshman who joins a secret society, The Order, who is exposed to a world of magic and monsters. Although Netflix cancelled it after just 2 seasons, we recommend giving it a watch.

Stars: Jake Manley, Sarah Grey, Adam DiMarco, Louriza Tronco

Ragnarok (2020 – )

Ragnarok takes place in present day, and is a coming-of-age take on Norse mythology. A small Norwegian town is facing pollution and melting glaciers caused by factories owned by the Jutul family. Netflix recently confirmed that a third and final season of the series is on the way.

An adaptation of the book series of the same name by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time is situated in a high fantasy world. A woman named Moiraine “takes five young people on a journey, believing that one of them might be the reincarnation of the Dragon, a powerful individual prophesied to save the world or destroy it.”

Stars: Rosamund Pike, Daniel Henney, Madeleine Madden, Zoë Robins

The Last Kingdom (2015 – )

The Last Kingdom premiered in 2015, and a fifth and final season is on the way, though we don’t yet have a date. Carnival Row (2019 – )

Debuting in 2019, Carnival Row is another show on this list that has been renewed, but we still don’t know when to expect it. A neo-noir take on fantasy drama, it follows a detective and a fairy who “rekindle a dangerous affair in a Victorian fantasy world, where the city’s uneasy peace collapses when a string of murders reveals an unimaginable monster.”

Stars: Jamie Harris, Orlando Bloom, Cara Delevingne, Simon McBurney
