Prime Video‘s My Lady Jane arrived today on the streaming platform with all 8 episodes. The series combines comedy, fantasy, and some history as it re-tells the story of Lady Jane Grey. She famously reigned as Queen for only nine days in 1553 before being executed and the throne taken by Mary Tudor.

Based on the 2016 historical fiction book series of the same title, My Lady Jane offers a new account of Lady Jane’s fate – one where she is Queen for more than nine days and brings good to society. Prime Video sums up the comical take on the story as: “Gird your loins for the tragic tale of Lady Jane Grey, the young Tudor noblewoman who was Queen of England for nine days and then beheaded in 1553… F*ck that. We’re retelling history the way it should have happened: the damsel in distress saves herself. This is an epic tale of true love and high adventure set in an alt-universe of action, history, fantasy, comedy, romance, and rompy-pompy. Buckle up.”

The ensemble cast is made up of Emily Bader (Fresh Kills), Edward Bluemel (A Discovery of Witches), Jordan Peters (Everything I Know About Love), Anna Chancellor (Pennyworth), Dominic Cooper (Preacher), Kate O’Flynn (Landscapers), Rob Brydon (The Trip), Máiréad Tyers (Extraordinary), Abbie Hern (Enola Holmes), Isabella Brownson (Napoleon), Robyn Betteridge (The Gold), Henry Ashton (Outlander), Michael Workeye (This Is Going to Hurt), Joe Klocek (Neighbours), Brandon Grace (Fate: The Winx Saga), and Will Keen (His Dark Materials).
