4 Major Things From The Last of Us Part II Video Game That Have To Happen In The Series
**Warning: Major Spoilers Ahead For The Last of Us
We finally have a release date: The Last of Us Season 2 comes to HBO and Max April 2025. While the exact date has not yet been revealed, this is still very exciting for fans who have been waiting a very long time for the series to return.
The first season was very faithful to the first video game, surprisingly covering the entire story line. Because of this, we can assume that season 2 will follow the events of The Last of Us Part II. Often liberties are taken when bringing something like a video game to the screen, but here are four major things that absolutely have to be included, or fans will riot.
Major Spoilers Ahead For The Last of Us

Ellie Witnesses Abby Kill Joel
Abby Anderson is a new character that viewers are absolutely going to hate. While we do not know her intentions when we first meet her, it is early on in the game that she shows her true colors. Joel and Tommy rescue her from some infected, and then she kills Joel. Yes, you read that right. She murders him to enact revenge for her father – the surgeon that Joel killed in the first game.
PoorEllie witnesses this, enteringthe outpost just in time to see Abby beat Joel to death. The scene is horrific and heartbreaking at the same time. Abby spares Ellie and Tommy, who then vow revenge for Joel.
Tommy Seeks Revenge For His Brother’s Death & Nearly Dies
Witnessing Joel’s murder does a number on Tommy. He leaves his wife, Maria, and sets out for Seattle to hunt down Abby. He gets himself into some hot water when he finds her, however. Abby’s ally, Yara, saves her by stabbing Tommy and then Abby pushes him into the water. We assume he is dead, but he is not.
At the end of the game, Tommy is shown, but all is not well. He is still struggling with the loss of his brother and the consequences. He is in Jackson, but it is clear he has a rough life.

Ellie & Dina’s Relationship
Ellie and Dina fall in love in Jackson. Dina is pregnant by her boyfriend Jesse, which makes it hard for her to leave him. The three travel together, going after Tommy and Abby. The two end up together after Jesse dies. In what many players thought was the end of the game at first, Abby leaves Ellie on death’s doorstep. Ellie returns home to begin a new life with Dina.
Eighteen months later we see them raising a baby, JJ (named in honor of Joel and Jesse), on a farmstead not too far from Jackson. However, Ellie cannot get the thought of revenge for Joel out of her head.
Ellie Spares Abby in The End
When Ellie gets a tip as to where Abby is, she abandons Dina and JJ despite a lot of begging for her to stay. She kills numerous allies of Abby on her path to get to her, including a pregnant woman. It is clear that she has snapped and is willing to do just about anything to take Abby down.
Ellie ultimately chooses to leave Abby alive in her efforts to stop this cycle of violence. At one point, Ellie is holding Abby underwater, about to drown her, when she gets an image of Joel in her head and instead shows mercy.
After this, Ellie returns to the farmstead but sees that Dina and JJ have left. She picks up Joel’s guitar and attempts to play, even after losing two fingers in her fight with Abby.

All of these events must occur in The Last of Us Season 2, no matter how difficult to watch and heartbreaking they will be. For those viewers that have played the game, they will know what to expect, but anyone who did not is sure to be devastated as things play out.
